Buying stylish surprises from modcloth (which had a 1.5/4 success rate...not amazing) somehow lead to a yen for grab bags, which lead to lots of intense researching of subscription boxes....let us say that I will be getting a lot of shit in the mail in the next month or so and will be using it as an exercise to get back into journaling (because reviews).

See how I have handily rationalized that? Huh, maybe this will actually get me to write more. And to remember to actually unsubscribe to the boxes I only wanted for one month. Re: writing more, I've signed up for trope bingo in hopes that will kickstart my finishing Helen's NYR so I can do yuletide this year ;_____; why am I such a failure.

Given the amount of weird typo mistakes I made in my lab notebook today, I think I'm just not awake enough to do things like make logical conclusions and identify friends. Orz

I'm probably only going to get a month or two of these boxes, but here goes:

Lootcrate, aka nerdy stuff - they announce which fandoms they're going to do each month, and this one included lotr, so I of course had to sign up

Lootsocks - KINGDOM HEARTS. NEED I SAY MORE. The other pair of socks are going to be rick and morty, which is bleh, but I'll give them to karen (who purportedly likes that show) or smth.

My Guilty Pleasures - lolll I signed up for three months of this because reasons? Idk now that I know they also charge you shipping I'm not likely to do this again. they give you a romance novel a month, as well as indulgent stuff like candles and bath bombs and coloring books and the like. You get to choose which genre you want, but I went with surprise me! and mentioned that I hate contemp stuff. Hoooopefully that goes well. :3 I have way too many books stacked on my shelves to be read rn, but why not...?

I also researched heeeeeeeellllllllllaaaaaaaaaaaa tea boxes but then didn't actually sign up for them and instead bought a bunch of tea samplers from teabox because Lauren is visiting soon and I want to sit down and try like 14 different types of darjeeling oolong with her! Also, uh, 12 samples of muscatel darjeeling, several darjeeling whites, some darjeeling greens, some assam....yeah I spent a lot of money, did I mention that?

I...need to stop buying things. We will see how this goes. I'm still tempted to try out other subscription boxes though (Kal Elle looks adorbs!!) so maybe I'll limit myself to x number of boxes a month and keep subscribing and unsubscribing to them. I almost signed up for the $40 harry potter one but then somehow had enough self-restraint to not.

All of this sounds so exciting! And yeah maybe space out the subscription boxes so you don't run through all of them at once. This is yet another thing I want to do when I start living in a place. *eyes Lootsocks enviously*

I almost stole Fortnum & Mason tea from a box someone had abandoned in a shared kitchen in the dorm I'm in right now. It turned out the box was less abandoned than I thought, sadly.

I realized maybe the reason I keep buying stuff is because I keep seeing ads everywhere and the Google algorithm knows me quite well so far and then I click and fall down an internet hole of research and then I have to try all of the things at one, i.e. 3 or 4 subscription boxes all at once. Why are grab bags so irresistible, yvonne??

The ads are way too successful on you! Maybe if you put them on a wish list and pencil them into a monthly schedule it'll ping the part of your brain that wants gratification but also at a rate that allows your paychecks to catch up.

I feel you about modcloth - everything is so cute on the site and them usually disappointing in some way IRL. I have attempted to not be swayed by its siren songs BUT I AM SURE IT'S COMING FOR ME.

Subscription boxes sound great so I am looking forward to reviews~! I hope to one day find one that I'd want for longer than a month lol (which is to say I might do https://www.bookofthemonth.com/ or https://quarterly.co/products/literary-box)

I'm almost happy I'm so horribly picky about books (i.e. about what protagonists and narration I like), because for all that I don't even want to know how many hours I spent looking through tea box options, I spent like none on books.
