white people, so many white people
Feb. 18th, 2014 03:06 pmI rewatched the first few episodes of Psych the other day and kept spotting SGA side characters.

It was just as lighthearted and great as it was when I watched it years ago (but perhaps even better, because I know from comic con that the cast and writers and producers all really like each other and have a lot of fun on set) buuuuuuuuut I couldn't help but notice this time round that all of the non-white characters are used as comic relief. Maybe that's a thing that gets better over the seasons?
Speaking of things with room for improvement, I watched the Pilot of SG-1 and it was gross at some points and sexist at all points and not even the conversation where Dr. Jackson and O'Neill both look into one another's eyes intensely and state that they're single can make up for that. Also I didn't realize how warm and fuzzy and great the multiculturalness of SGA made me feel. That said, Pilots tend to be different from the tone of the show (see: Scully taking her shirt off in The X-Files) and I'm going to watch at least the first season because we have the DVDs, so. It's feasible it will get better re: sexism because so far the narrative has been more misogynist than the characters themselves. And there has to be a reason so many people like it. Right?

Date: 2014-02-19 02:55 am (UTC)My other hopes and dreams for SG-1: I really hope Daniel Jackson continues to look like he's in a hair commercial for the rest of the series. Seriously, what do they do to make his hair look so soft, I could stare at it forever (which is fortunate, because there's little else by way of eye candy so far). And that they choose a color of lipstick for Carter and stick to it, because she had a different shade every scene, which was kind of weird (as you can see, my priorities are v serious). Also I would DIE if there was a scene where Jackson and O'Neill fought one another with Jaffa staff weapons, because they are so phallic I'm actually kind of impressed.
Do you have a favourite season of SG1? Did it stay good until the end? None of my friends have watched SG1 so I'm not sure if there's a place one should probably stop, like after Season 6 of The X-Files or Season 5 of Supernatural.

Only, the dress the pseudo-Mongols gave her had the UGLIEST shoulder pads so the whole thing was kind of hideous and hilarious. My opinion of the dudes (and the wardrobe department) dropped with every additional second the camera showed them gaping, lol.
Fear not, though, my low opinion is a very fond one.
