Cause no one ever looked so good
Jan. 3rd, 2013 11:22 pmThere's this locked lj community that I want to get into like burning because of reasons. it's sort of old ish? like, I'm 2 years late to the party, but it's still kind of active and it's the only place to find that stuff on the internet and i messaged one of the mods in a v pathetic fashion a week or so ago and she hasn't responded but her lj info says her journal was updated two days ago and now I'm rolling around on my bed in a silk robe crying along to the lyrics of Nobody Compares (you're tearing me apart x3 / Did I do something stupid, yeah girl if I blew it /Just tell me what I did, let's work through it /There's gotta be some way, to get you to want me) because SADNESS. prz 2 b directing me to someone who can help me hack in w/o asking too many questions if you know someone technologically savvy, flist.
I've been looking for a suitably in-love McDanno icon for Hawaii Five-O, but either they have love that moves or people just have refused to make shippy icons????? I really don't understand this, because it's kind of what the show is about. Maybe the whole, doing fandom and talking to noone but my sisters about it thing has hid from my sight the true nature of many aspects and attitudes of certain fandoms on the internet? WHO KNOWS.
I got a few for xmas (Anna Dressed in Blood, The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks), one from bookswap (the Shark Texts), and some for myself (Gay P&P, Watership Down, hope to reread the Ragwitch...).
Anna Dressed in Blood was interesting, bc the narrator was so incredibly different from myself- it ended in a way I didn't exactly expect, and I'm probably going to read the sequel but most likely not going to reread either one. It got really scary at the end, which I should have guessed, bc the title is pretty indicative of horror, but yes. Quite a page-turner!
The Disreputable History was awesome in that it was mostly about a teenaged girl's awareness of gender roles and expectations in an upper crust boarding school (modern day), but it ended in a Room with a View-esque way, and the main character had a weirdly obsessive personality?
May or may not like The Raw Shark Texts - it's about some guy with amnesia, and, as with most books aimed at adults (which I guess I am), I don't much like the main character. Who knows if this is my dislike of adult male POVs or not. Maybe the bleakness of the book so far (which involves the beach being referred to as a nice place to camp, which, ew. Anti-lasagna.) will give way to fantastical adventure, which is always a good thing.
We rewatched the BBC ver of Pride and Prejudice today! Which may further postpone my reading of Gay P&P, because Lizzie/Darcy is just so lovely. ;A;
Who knows if I will ever get around to Watership Down. Hurrah for pipe dreams!
Books in my future include:
- the sequel to Cinder, coming out Feb 5th, apparently focussed on other characters, but I will not mind so long as she doesn't set it in a non-white culture and then have a white main character, as with the last one. :\ I also kind of hope there is another plague! Hurrah for epidemiology!
- the sequel to Anna Dressed in Blood in which, according to a non-spoilery review, main guy will probably end up with some other girl. bleh. do not know if want, but then again he probs shouldn't date anna, bc she'll be 16 forever and that'd be problematic
- Captive Prince...IN PRINT <3<3 SOMETIME AT THE END OF JAN AAAHHH
- the first of the series that inspired Master and Commander: according to yuletide requests, it's shiptastic and the characters are vividly and entertainingly portrayed. hurrah!
- some circus thing that Sabrina is reading, apparently? about people duelling? idek, man.
Do tell me if any of y'all have book recs
Also, WHAT AM I GOING TO DO WHEN RACHEL AND JENNIFER LEAVE?? (Answer: hang out with Kt, but still. kt has to return home sometimes, who knows why :()
In conclusion, I would like Taylor Swift to backtrack from pop music back into country-esque music.
