Yuletide recs, in no particular order

Don't Assassinate the Pigeons
I got this for Yuletide and it is fabulous! It is perfectly spot-on, tone-wise, and anon was able to incorporate lots of characters, while adding details about their pasts/mindsets that fit seamlessly with their canon selves. It flip-flops between the ridiculous, the serious, the heartwarming, and the mundane, just like the manga does. It is everything I could have ever wanted out of Oresama Teacher fic, basically. *______*
Twelfth Night
Shipwrecked
Twelfth Night – in space! Everything I know about Twelfth Night comes from She’s the Man (and a Harry Potter fic from the early 2000s…), but I enjoyed this thoroughly nevertheless. The close relationship between Viola and her brother, Olivia’s falling in love with Cesario, Viola’s comfortable genderqueer-ness, everything about this is AMAJINGG.
You Belong with Me
You Belong with Her
What happens after the music video ends, where Taylor and Meg find out they have more in common than they would have suspected. The characters in this have very distinct personalities, and the author added a lot of little things that make people seem more real (Meg’s addiction to Assassin’s Creed, Taylor’s stray bitter thoughts, etc). Basically, this is adorable and great and I think I will be rereading this a lot in the future.
Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge | The Wallflower
Down to the Bone
An established relationship fic where Kyohei tries to figure out what to do with his life, and Sunako tries to get used to his face. The character voices for this are spot on! I didn’t think I much cared about Kyohei or his finding-a-place-in-the-world issues, but this had perfect pacing and inner thoughts:actual things happening ratio and there are a few entertaining references to Johnny’s Entertainment.
Paperbag Princess
And they all lived—
The Paperbag Princess learns that it is after the adventure where the most work begins. I’m a big fan of fairytales, and the huge bit in the middle, between winning the quest, and spoiler spoiler spoiler, was really fun to read. You don't have to be very familiar with the canon to read this. :)
Swimming RPF, Olympics RPF
to the beat of the drum
Ryan Lochte/Michael Phelps, in which Ryan is his arrogant, uncharming self, and Michael is resigned to their intimacy feeling disturbingly normal. Roadtrip fic.
Michael Bublé Being Stalked By A Velociraptor
Keep Your Head Down
Santa Claws is Coming to Town
One is a haunting portrayl of life when constantly stalked by a velociraptor, and the other is oddly heartwarming. I won’t spoil which is which!
Mean Girls
Dyke
Cease and Resist (Double Jeopardy Remix)
A look at Regina and Janis and how their friendship dissolved. And, in one case, how they react when they're thrown back together. <3<3
Sky High
All Hands Against His Own
Oh, Sky High fic! Will/Warren makes for delicious, delicious angst, and Yuletide produces at least one of these each year. <3<3<3
His Dark Materials
Applied Heresy
Marisa Coulter’s life in a world that does not want to accept ambitious women, and how she and Lord Asriel fell into their dangerous love affair. There’s a bit of restricted POV in here, where Lord Asriel’s account of certain matters doesn’t fit with Marisa’s, which I always love. In conclusion: I do not know how Marisa handles her awesome.
An Education
we learned more from a three-minute record, baby, than we ever learned in school
Jenny runs into Danny again, at the end of her time at Oxford. I shipped this like burning when I watched the movie, and I loved loved loved this. Jenny is a bit harder, and they're finally on equal footing. It is great! Go read it!
