Hullo lj.for the (almost) past two months I have been working at girl scout camp as a counselor up in the mountains. I accidentally lightened my hair a shade, got a spider bite that made my whole (dominant) arm swell and actually got tan for once. The problem with having people to write letters or offline chats to means one’s journal ends up in fragments belonging to other people, which is confusing, unhelpful for reveling in the past and gives the impression to others that you are the ranting type. But oh well.
I always forget how amazing camp is until I go there again – sure, it’s cultish and cheesy and hot – but all the people around you are crazy and enthusiastic and constantly beaming deep appreciation at one another. It’s nice, hanging out with people that are the type you would normally never connect with. My best friends there are history, poly sci, business, nursing majors, dating military guys, two years older, international. It’s a nice feeling, being part of a completely accepting community, kept together by a common purpose. (and the campers can be real awesome) I just wish they would all stop talking in convincing Russian accents like they have been for the last week so I don’t start doing it myself.
Sarah came back from China. :D she also came bearing gifts, which I’d forgotten to expect, and they’re lovely. Wearing makeup is always super weird – I never put on enough for it to be very noticeable, but it’s always weird to not have blonde eyelashes.
There’s this one show, and at some season finale there’s this one bit that just confuses me to the end of the earth
Older attractive brother (who is about to die): You’re my weakness, you know it’s true, and I’m yours.
Lanky younger brother: pauses, looks perturbed We-we’re family. It’s not like that.
HOW ELSE IS THAT SUPPOSED TO BE INTERPRETED EVER. Like, seriously, this show. It was actually produced by the same person that did X-Files, so the two characters were set up for kind of the same dynamic. Just. Idek. Castiel will show up eventally so I won’t have to slash them anymore. (even though I’m really not complaining)
