The 6th Harry Potter movie was better done than the fifth movie, but I felt a bit like the overall feeling of it was brought back to being the same as the third movie - a bunch of short scenes that didn't seem connected, as if someone was checking plot events off on a list. This feeling was increased by the fact that everything was sort of quiet and artsily done (which made it more into random slice of life with not a lot of emotion) and there wasn't much follow up on anything - there are no consequences when Harry Sectumsempras Draco; the epic creepy of the book and the hiding it from Snape and all the repercussions of using it aren't really addressed; Ron's quidditch thing is sort of mentioned, but then Harry doesn't even tell him he hadn't been under Felix; Harry's lessons from Dumbledore are random and fleeting and the climax of the movie (which I was asleep for, actually, hah)comes without much buildup and seems kind of random. Not to mention the audience knowing what Draco is doing all along, taking the intrigue out of the plot and making the scenes even more sporadic and slice of life-y.

That being said, it was quite entertaining. There is lots of BFFery of the Harry and Ron and Harry and Hermione variet, the former's scenes coming off like a Flight of the Conchords episode and the latter just ridiculously cute and banter-y. It was full of quirky moments designed to make the audience laugh. Overall, I didn't mind too much the deviations from the book, as all of the movies are kind of like Spark Notes anyways, although I do wish Bellatrix didn't have such a penchant for appearing and burning people's houses. :\
Also Tom Riddle looked like Susan from the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. I dismissed the thought once I had it, but then Rachel leaned over later and told me the same thing, so yes. If Susan were mixed with a creepy robot, anyways.

I was at a korean grocery store yesterday and they played the new SNSD song, and then Sorry Sorry immediately after while I was walking around the produce in the company of middle aged korean women. I was quite amused and had to restrain myself from singing and dancing along.

I have bangs! However, my friend cut them slightly too short, so I also have hairclips. sighh.

:/ Maybe it's because of my Draco/Tom Felton bias, or because I hadn't reread the book this time, or because I didn't anticipate this one as much, but I was actually really really impressed with this movie.
It's funny because my little bubble of people I was talking to when watching the movie all really really loved it, but everyone else seems to be like "eh".
And dude. Do not diss my Bella. She was fucking badass. Oh my god I fucking love~ her~ :D :D :D Rotfl at the end when she was like skipping and creaking havoc I was like "Kelly, Kelly, Kelly isn't she AWESOME?" and Kelly just sort of deadpanned at me XD
Lol Tiny Tom Riddle did look unattractive though. I rather like that comparison XD

first: <3s on your icon

I feel like I take everything anticlimactically, so I actually did reaaallllllyy like this movie, I was just confused at how to react to it because I didn't have any expectations, and because I don't really see them as movies, I can't really figure out how to evaluate it as one. and :3 wry yes Draco was nicely dressed this time around ♥ and Bella was ~*gorgeous*~ although wth did they do with Narcissa she's supposed to be hot stuff. :\

[keke I know right. not really intentional though.]

:D WITH MY FREEZE RAY I WILL STOP THE WORLD. :D

Ah, yeah. I didn't really have any expectations either. That's sort of weird isn't it? To just not expect anything- I never really thought about it until now XD
Pfft nicely dressed is the fucking understatement of the ages. HE IS A GOD. A DEBONAIR GOD. ♥

Yeah, when I saw Narcissa I was like "are you kidding me -_-"

I get it. I do that sometimes, too. It just makes it seem really- not personal I guess and it throws me off. :P

that's why they didn't put VolDmort in, obv - this movie was Draco's time to shine, eh. 'twouldn't do to have another chap in a tailored suit prancing about, cramping his style (what can I say, volD is fine, when he's not Susan)

lolol what can I say, I'm just such a professional person, you can tell by talking to me face to face :B

obv JKR had the fineness of Draco in mind while writing it- Harry can only handle so much obsessing at once and Draco deserved his undivided attention.
I kind of feel like images of vD can be used like the Eye in LotR - randomly and at times liberally just for awesome effect

I agree with you. It was very disjointed. The Sectumsempra....they didn't make it as BAD as it was supposed to be. :/ I kind of like that we knew what Draco was doing....mainly because you could see how much pain it caused him....In the book its easier to see what Draco's whole mission was doing to him, but it's harder to convey that in a movie if you don't see him the whole time and he' just...sneaking around.

I don't really think there WAS a climax. I was just kinda like "that's it?"

but I think it was cute and I'd see it again.

I have to randomly respond to this because, I was just kinda like "that's it?" . I totally thought the same thing. After Dumbledore died, it that five-second black out a la LotR Return of the King, and the theater was silent and I literally said out loud, "was that the end?" into the silence. and then the trio did their inspiring we shall do it together rah rah! into the sunset and i was terribly reminded of LotR again, as Frodo is all "I must quest!" and Sam is all "But I need to go with you and cook you potatoes!"

it all felt very anticlimactic...even with the lack of a climax xD

I feel like they took out all the cringe moments where Harry suffers consequences for being a prick towards Draco - not only sectumsempra, but also the part on the train is also just sort of glossed over, whereas whenever I read them I get v. stressed out in Harry's general direction, haha
I just wish he'd mentioned that they were threatening his mum, like he does in the book :\

yeah - I was consistently surprised when certain things happened in the movie because there was no buildup. like with the felix felicious, I feel like there was a steady buildup of stress and frustration in Harry that lead to the immense relief and badassery that was using the potion in the book, so in the movie I was just sort of like "oh, is it that time already?" also I feel like he met with Dumbledore so rarely and nothing they did seemed very important that when they actually went off to find the horcrux, it didn't feel like Harry was finally getting to do something to help defeat Voldemort so much as just "hey, let's take a field trip!"

it was pretty, too, and everyone's haircuts were v. attractive~ :3

the boy still makes me think of fancypants. i blame this on that awesome icon floating around omona though. xD ALSO. LITTLE FIRST YEARS WERE SO CUTE ♥ I think that is my lasting impression on the movie. beside Draco-randomly-being-attractive-at-angles, SECTUMSEMPRA=SUPER JUNIOR ala Don't Don, and my lolwtf is that choosey lover?!> moment. xD OBV, I JUST NEED TO REWATCH IT WITH YOU. XD

also. your wording was quite well-put :) and AJKSDFHAS ZION + MUSIC= FOREVER EPIC. LIKE SNSD+ KBBQ XDDDD

...ALSO. i am really amused that you have a hp icon and yet you don't use it for a 95% HP post. :)

yes on the cuteness. I had a vague thought of "wow, the architecture around the place has changed quiiiiiite a bit since he was a first year...perhaps they just start to see the castle differently over the years...so the first years are still seeing the castle as boxy staircase-turning-in level-ish-things?" /random

ahaha you're so right. this is perhaps because I go by feeling rather than subject?

also Love Bug is intensely stuck in my head wth
From: [identity profile] faithgrowsold.livejournal.com
duddddeeee. after rewatching it a second time kfjaslkld HE DOES LOOK LIKE SUSAN. LOL FOREVER. and lol. i did not notice but the castle changed like crazy. the only thing i ever really notice is the fact that their uniforms kinda change a bit every two movies and hagrid's hut always seems to be in a different location. xD I MISS THE STAIRCASES. AND TALKING PORTRAITS. WTF. THIS SCHOOL WAS NOT MAGICAL. D:

xD love bug is ridiculously catchy like that. :) (tbh, i have poker face stuck in my head. unfortunately :/)

...perhaps that's why they came to hogwarts? so they could wait till draco is sectumsempra'd to leap out and sing Don't Don? lol. actually a completely wet floor and random flames would be really cool as a backdrop

I have to say, I agree with what you said about the movie. I think it's better than some of the previous movies- it didn't feel as rushed to me as some of the other ones- but you're right, a lot of the stuff wasn't addressed, like sectumsempra and the book. I did enjoy it though, overall. But the movies just are never long enough to capture the same feel as the books. Can't be helped, I suppose.

Also Tom Riddle looked like Susan from the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

HAHAHA that's so true!
